Little Saints
This year I was fortunate enough to be a volunteer with the Little Saints Program at St. Martha's. Each week I worked with grade one and two students learning about different Bible stories through scripture, crafts, and interactive story telling. I found this really helped nurture my faith as I was able to learn new ways to teach religious education. It was great to learn about stories more in depth, to see the different activities you could do with the subjects and to grow more deeply and personally in my own faith. I was able to make connections with members of our Catholic Community and to develop some very meaningful relationships with the other volunteers.
Personal Faith Journey
My family continues to be a big part of nurturing my faith. While growing up I attended mass with my parents, siblings, and grandparents and was able to celebrate the different sacraments with them. I completed some of my sacraments in Calgary with the St. Patrick Church community. After moving to Lethbridge my family and I attended Our Lady of the Assumption Church and attending Assumption school helped me reconnect to my faith after moving to a new city and a new school. More recently I have started attending services at St. Basil Church with my cousins and members of the teaching staff at St. Paul to help nurture my faith.
SPICE Retreat
I had the opportunity to attend the SPICE Retreat with some of the teachers I met during our Faith Formation Sessions. It was a great weekend to grow and reflect on our faith journey. The chance to talk with different people during one on one sharing or the table discussions was very insightful. The speaker for the weekend, Roy Petitfils, was amazing. He had such an inspirational story and provided us with many discussions and thought provoking questions. He helped me feel more comfortable sharing my faith with others, including staff in Holy Spirit but also with other Catholic educators. I left feeling renewed in my faith and teaching was reminded just how important it is to see God in each and every person, including ourselves.
